Agenda
1. Review of key happenings, actions, etc.
2. definitions review - Allan
Subfunctions help tease out what's going on and what we can make be common among services. It's useful to be able to think about these in terms of common elements, argument reuse, etc. John thinks Doug would be interested in these concepts when thinking about attaching service metadata to data metadata.
Allan also posted the GSM material in HTML last night.
OWS Annex B can use some review. In particular the definitions.
3. Status report service type hierarchies
(Lou, John D., Peter, John E., and Arliss were going to work on this)
Peter began a diagram, asked Allan for comments, will clean it up and resend it. Will post it today.
key issues
next steps for service type hierarchies/object modeling
4. WSDL Work Item status
Integration of WSDL and GetCapabilities - Peter
WSDL instantiation of WFS -- Peter
Peter's WFS that uses WSDL integrated with Capabilities.WSDL instantiation of WMS -- Jeff dlb & Ananth
WSDL instantiation of WCS -- John EvansXML Schema work/issue?
Peter has an IP address now that we can hit. http://24.101.168.220/~pvretano/wfs/cwwfs.cgi?VERSION=0.0.13&REQUEST=getcapabilities
A cleaned up version that will load in IE is here.
We don't know if the way Peter's embedded the definitions element is legal. Milan of Galdos has validated the WSDL here against GML 3.0.
Allan recommends Architag's XRay XML Editor as a useful means of looking at this. It also can do XSLT transformations in real time.
Peter is still working on the GET Bindings.
JDLB asks about whether we'll have any WSDL material to put into WMS 1.2. The answer is that we're still in the very early stages and it's unlikely we'll have anything "spec-worthy".
There seems to be resistance on the part of OGC IP participants to anything other than HTTP GET. This seems to be because it's easier to parse name=value than XML.
One other thing to consider is that GET allows you to construct things like XLinks that point to features or feature collections.
Lou points us at WSCL from UDDI
Let's look more closely at SOAP. We have to be careful that we don't lose things like the good parts of GET.
5. Catalogs - Lou/Peter
Editing Status: Peter has been cleaning up the catalog document with respect to the WFS spec. Also added the transactions. Peter wants to use the more generic names like "GetObject" instead of "GetFeature". Remove more of the Feature specific names in favor of the more generic ones.
Doug has been working with SAIC on data-metadata to service binding. He may try to send in a report about this later.
FULL/SUMMARY/BRIEF: Jeff dLB - where do we stand on the most recent FULL (etc.)? Compusult likes the FULL, went through an exercise of mapping FULL to capabilities (WMS 1.1 - mapped all the capabilities fields into the Catalog Service metadata) - will send results to the list. From there Compusult will send in their proposed SUMMARY & BRIEF.
It sounds like we're converging on a FULL.
Will Compusult do a 1.0 mapping? Probably will try - may not be too hard.
Catalog Revision: Lou, Doug, and Arliss will work on Arliss' questions about Catalog 2.0. They are waiting for Kurt to send out materials from the meeting since Kurt had been the facilitator.
6. Chaining --
Jeff Lansing -concrete chaining use case?
Look at this...and this... Updated versions Here and Here.
Peter's write up about "upstream" control in chains
Peter's working on his document... will send it out as soon as he can.
7. Future events:
WGISS Subgroups in Darmstadt - Sept. 4-7
OGC Meeting - Sept. 10-12
OWS Pre-Kickoff - Sept. 13-14
OWS Kickoff - Sept. 24-28
8. Schedule next telecon
August 30 - 1100-1300 EDT - Dedicate a portion to Catalogs. The Catalog RWG may be meeting during this time so we'll get an update from them. (Doug, Lou, ...)
